چکیده

METHODS. A semiquantitative assessment of total HPC over 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months was obtained by using information gathered from a questionnaire. Moderate to high HPC consumption was defined as $10 g/wk. To quantify ambient household peanut levels, dust samples from all household members’ beds, the infant’s crib, and the infant’s play area were obtained by vacuuming. Wipe samples were obtained from the infant’s and parents’ eating areas, taps, dishwasher and refrigerator handles, and the infant’s crib rail. Peanut protein in the samples was measured by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and converted to micrograms of peanut protein per gram of dust.

Atopic dermatitis increases the effect of exposure to peanut antigen in dust on peanut sensitization and likely peanut allergy

BACKGROUND History and severity of atopic dermatitis (AD) are risk factors for peanut allergy. Recent evidence suggests that children can become sensitized to food allergens through an impaired skin barrier. Household peanut consumption, which correlates strongly with peanut protein levels in household dust, is a risk factor for peanut allergy. OBJECTIVE We sought to assess whether environmen...

Peanut allergy: Effect of environmental peanut exposure in children with filaggrin loss-of-function mutations

BACKGROUND Filaggrin (FLG) loss-of-function mutations lead to an impaired skin barrier associated with peanut allergy. Household peanut consumption is associated with peanut allergy, and peanut allergen in household dust correlates with household peanut consumption. OBJECTIVE We sought to determine whether environmental peanut exposure increases the odds of peanut allergy and whether FLG muta...

Distribution of peanut protein in the home environment.

BACKGROUND To halt the increase in peanut allergy, we must determine how children become sensitized to peanut. High household peanut consumption used as an indirect marker of environmental peanut exposure is associated with the development of peanut allergy. OBJECTIVE We sought to validate a method to quantify environmental peanut exposure, to determine how peanut is transferred into the envi...

Removal of peanut allergen Ara h 1 from common hospital surfaces, toys and books using standard cleaning methods

BACKGROUND In children, a diagnosis of peanut allergy causes concern about accidental exposure because even small amounts of peanut protein could trigger an allergic reaction. Contamination of toys, books or other items by peanut butter in areas where individuals have eaten may occur in hospital waiting rooms and cafeterias. It is not known if hospital cleaning wipes are effective in removing p...

Triclosan promotes epicutaneous sensitization to peanut in mice.

BACKGROUND Peanut allergy is increasing in prevalence due to unknown factors. A growing body of clinical evidence suggests sensitization to peanut occurs through the skin, supported by findings in mouse models. There is a need to identify environmental factors that promote epicutaneous sensitization to peanut. Triclosan is an antimicrobial found in household products that has been associated wi...
